Crunchy Soy Farofa

Farofa is a traditional Brazilian side dish, normally with tons of fat and animal products like eggs, bacon and beef jerky. Here we kept the flavors but added some compassion to it.

 

 

This farofa is amazing! Incredible tasty, I'm sure this will be one of your favorite side dishes in almost every sunday lunch. You will love this so bad that will start to create dishes only to go along with this farofa. Soup with farofa, Rice and Farofa Crumble, Topping for beans...

 

Ingredients:

  • 200g of texturized soybean protein (the granular one)

  • 1 big chopped onion

  • 1 garlic clove (laminated)

  • 6 tbsp of soy sauce

  • Garlic powder

  • Smoked paprika

  • ½ glass of chopped green olives

  • ½ glass of chopped parsley

  • 1 glass of manioc flour (specific for farofa) or whole wheat bread crumbs

  • salt and pepper as you wish

How?:

  1. Take the biggest frying pan you have and let it heat in medium/high. Add the soy sauce and wait for it to be hot. Add the laminated garlic and let it fry in the soy sauce, add the onion before the garlic start to burn.

  2. Lower the heat to medium/low and wait until the onions are soft. Add the olives and the texturized soybean protein and keep stirring to avoid the protein to singe.

  3. Add the seasonings, check the salt and turn off the heat. Add the manioc flour stir well and then add the parsley. Make a victory dance and serve warm or in room temperature.
